Halogen lamp life

Do you find that your halogen bulbs are constantly burning out before reaching their advertised service life? If so, check the voltage rating. Most bulbs sold in North American retail stores are rated at 120 Volts… but they do not seem to last very long. We have found that bulbs rated for 130 Volts can last up to four times longer than the 120 Volt ones… and the price difference is minimal. This is because heat damages the filament inside the lamp and the life of a halogen lamp is largely dependent upon using proper voltage.  A voltage higher than recommended will shorten the life of the lamp, while using less than the recommended voltage will lengthen its life.
130 Volt bulbs are available at specialized electrical supply stores. You might want to give them a try.
